NEC HD-DVD Multi-Reader
Drive for 500 Euros in October
Sunday, August 31, 2005
Liggy used our news submit to tell us about
some more news from Heise today. This time it's
about a PC HD-DVD drive reader from NEC.
NEC wants to sell their first HD-DVD drive for
PCs - the HR-1100A - beginning in October. The
drive will be shipped with playback software
and some movies. It is able to play back HD-DVDs,
DVDs and CD discs, drives with writing capabilities
are expected for January 2006 when also the
first Bluray drives should hit the market. Reading
speeds are 2x for HD-DVD, 8x for DVD, 5x for
DVD-RAM and 32x for CD. For playback a display
adapter with HDCP or HDMI interface is needed,
the VGA output will not work.
This multi-read drive will have some content
to play too as we have read that many films
will be offered in the HD-DVD format - like
Batman Begins and The Bourne Supremacy for instance.
Once again, if you can read German, head on
over to Heise for a view at the source.
